Proof of Residence

Proof of Residence is a required step to complete registration every school year. 

We've recently updated the requirements for proof of residence needed to enroll in Pelham City Schools. These changes help ensure that the Pelham City Schools' resources, staffing and funding directly support families who reside in our community. 

Proof of Residence - All students are required to provide the following residence verification documents (must be in parent/legal guardian's name). Statements must be from the current month or past 30 days. Disconnect or past due notices will not be accepted. 

RESIDENTS

  1. Mortgage statement or mortgage deed or property tax receipt in the name of the custodial parent or legal guardian OR a complete copy of the original, current lease/rental agreement signed by the property owner of record that lists the name of the custodial parent or legal guardian and child(ren) as occupants. The document must clearly show the parent or guardian’s name, the mortgage or lease issuer, the property address, and the due date.
  2. One of the following: Alabama Power, Pelham/Shelby/Southwest Water, Spire, home internet providers, Huntley Utility, Grand Reserve Utility, Green Park South Utility. 

RESIDING WITH OTHERS

A custodial parent or legal guardian residing in a property they do not own or lease, but who are residing with the homeowner, must complete a board-approved Residency Affidavit Form in person at the Board’s Central Office with the homeowner. 

The homeowner must present the following in their name at the time of the affidavit: 

1 Photo ID,  An original warranty deed; current property tax receipt OR complete copy of the original or current mortgage statement (past due notices will not be accepted).

2. AND current Alabama Power, Pelham/Shelby/Southwest Water, Spire, home internet providers, Huntley Utility, Grand Reserve Utility, Green Park South Utility (current month or past 30 days- disconnect or past dues notices will not be accepted).


The custodial parent/legal guardian must also provide two of the following documents in the name of the custodial parent or legal guardian listing the address stated on the affidavit: 

1. Government-issued ID; driver’s license 

2. Government-issued voter registration card 

3. Vehicle registration receipt 

4. Other documents upon specific approval by the Superintendent or designee 

This option is not available for leased or rented properties. For leased properties, the custodial parent or legal guardian must be listed as an occupant on the lease. 

Affidavits must be completed in person in front of a notary public at the Central Office. Affidavits under false pretenses will be prosecuted. Affidavits will be completed by appointment July 14-17, 2025 from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Board of Education office.

Student Address Verification Procedures

Pelham City Schools Board of Education has established zones for learners. Each student is required to attend the school in his/her zone. All attendance zones will be strictly enforced. Every student enrolled and/or enrolling in the Pelham City Schools system must provide verification of residence. A post office (P.O. Box) will not be accepted for verification. Student residency will be audited throughout the year. The administration may request updated residency documents. All documents submitted as proof of residence must contain the parent or legal guardian’s physical address for the school to verify that the residence is in zone. Pelham City Schools reserves the right to conduct home visits throughout the year to verify residency.

 
In-Person Proof of Residence Dates
You may choose any date and school to complete this step, no matter which school(s) your student(s) attend.

July 8, 2025 at Pelham Park Middle School from 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM
July 10, 2025 at Pelham Ridge Elementary from 7:00 AM - 11:00 AM
July 15, 2025 at Pelham Park Middle School from 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM
July 17, 2025 at Pelham Ridge Elementary from 7:00 AM - 11:00 AM
