Kim Kiel Promoted to Assistant Superintendent

Pelham City Schools is pleased to announce that Pelham High School Principal Kim Kiel has been promoted to the role of Assistant Superintendent. In this position, Ms. Kiel will extend her leadership and expertise to a system-wide scale, positively impacting schools across the district. Known for her strong focus on building relationships and connecting with stakeholders, Ms. Kiel is recognized throughout our community and state for her dedication, leadership, and involvement in initiatives that foster the growth and success of students and staff.


Reflecting on her promotion, Ms. Kiel expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to broaden her impact. “Over the past 26 years, I have been fortunate to serve in various roles across our district, and I have seen firsthand the dedication and passion that make our schools special. This position brings with it the chance to support our entire district in an even broader capacity, and I am excited to work alongside our community to help ensure the continued success of our students,” she shared.


Superintendent Chuck Ledbetter praised Kiel’s longstanding contributions to the school district. “Kim Kiel has been an outstanding educational leader at Pelham High School, and her dedication to school culture, achievement, and strong community connections has made a lasting impact,” said Ledbetter. “We look forward to her bringing that same commitment and loyalty to the district as a whole.”


Ms. Kiel’s career in Pelham City Schools began in 1999. Her experience includes roles as teacher, coach, athletic director, system athletic director, and, since 2020, principal of Pelham High School. She has been recognized for her dedication to students and the community with several awards, including the Alabama Association of Secondary School Principals’ Principal of the Year (District 5), Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) Athletic Director of the Year, and AHSAA Making a Difference Award. She is a graduate of the Alabama Superintendent’s Academy and Leadership Shelby County and currently serves as Vice President of the AHSAA Central Board of Control.


To ensure a smooth transition, Ms. Kiel will continue in her role as principal until November 8. Current assistant principal Sabrina Tutchtone will serve as interim principal until a new principal is named.
