Our Focus on Digital Citizenship

Our Focus on Digital Citizenship
Posted on 10/01/2019
Pelham City Schools is placing a focus on digital citizenship in all grades throughout this school year. Lessons on Safety, Privacy, and Security; Legal and Ethical Behavior; Digital Identity; and the Impact of Computing are aligned with the Alabama digital literacy standards and have been developed and tailored to age-appropriate content.

As part of our district-wide initiative, Pelham High School held it's first Digital Day on September 30 with a variety of lessons, activities, and discussions related to Digital Safety, Privacy & Security. Intercom announcements, digital slides, and student-produced public service announcements also focused on the day's topic and the theme "Know Your Footprint". The Pelham High School PTO sponsored the bright pink Digital Day t-shirts that will be worn by staff on each Digital Day. PHS will focus on other relevant topics related to digital citizenship on a dedicated Digital Day once every nine weeks.

All of our schools are implementing the lessons in a variety of ways. For example, morning announcements, integrating the content in library and counseling lessons in elementary schools, lessons in advisory and career prep in middle school, and dedicated digital days in high school.

We ask that our parents partner with us to have meaningful discussions with your children about these topics. Click here for more information and parent resources.
